A new recording from the fantastic Melero Archive, this time a recovery of the concert given by Stan Getz's quintet on September 22, 1980, at the General San Martín Municipal Theater in Buenos Aires. It was an inspired evening of tenor saxophone playing, featuring classics from his repertoire, including Jobim's Wave and Desafinado. Getz arrived in Buenos Aires from Asunción, Paraguay, where he had played on September 17, curiously the same day that former Nicaraguan dictator Anastasio Somoza had been assassinated in that city in an attack by members of the ERP (Revolutionary Revolutionary Party). The quintet he brought was made up of talented young men who averaged around 25 years old at the time. Pianist Mitch Forman alternates between piano and Rhodes, a sound still current—but not for much longer—in 1980, which has recently returned to fashion. The group also includes Chuck Loeb on guitar, so there is a predominance of harmonic instruments in the group.
