The legendary sound engineer and recording technician Carlos Melero , who also produced the Count Basie recording at the Teatro Ópera in Buenos Aires, recorded a concert by Sarah Vaughan and her trio in 1972. These tapes were stored away for over half a century and are now being released in a boxed set containing two CDs.
It's a piece of footage that oozes nothing: it's the complete concert in the order it happened, allowing us to appreciate the quality of the singer and her tremendous musicians, about which there's no need to explain anything. Sarah enters during the second song (Blue Monk is the trio's introduction) and begins the show with an impressive scat.
The booklet contains valuable information, a text by renowned journalist and music historian Sergio Pujol, and extensive graphic documentation, including the program for that historic evening.
The Argentine label RGS's collection promises many other historic recordings of world jazz greats captured by Melero in Buenos Aires theaters over nearly three decades (60s, 70s and 80s).
