"Enrique" is the second album by pianist and composer Santiago Belgrano, a work conceived as a tribute to Enrique Norris, a fundamental figure in Argentinian jazz and a mentor to several generations of musicians. Recorded in Buenos Aires and composed after Norris's passing in 2022, the album emerged as a way to celebrate his artistic and human legacy through a deeply personal composition.
Written for an unconventional nonet instrumentation—three woodwinds, three brass, piano, double bass, and drums—the album features seven original compositions inspired by different aspects of Norris's personality and musical world. Throughout the work, Belgrano combines composition and improvisation in a language that blends jazz tradition, timbral exploration, and a strong collective dimension.
The project brings together prominent musicians from the contemporary Argentinian scene, including Juan Cruz de Urquiza, Sergio Wagner, Juan Canosa, Ramiro Flores, and Carto Brandán, forming an ensemble that functions both as a tribute and a space for shared creation. More than an album dedicated to a historical figure, "Enrique" proposes a living dialogue with Norris's legacy and with a way of understanding music based on listening, risk-taking, and expressive freedom.
