Argentine pianist, composer, and arranger Juan Carlos Cirigliano, renowned for his collaborations with figures such as Astor Piazzolla and Oscar Peterson, presents his latest album, " Astor y yo (Piazzolla's Music in the 21st Century) ." This album offers a contemporary reinterpretation of Piazzolla's most iconic works, fusing elements of tango and jazz into an innovative offering.
Accompanied by an exceptional quintet consisting of Bernardo Monk on flute and saxophone, Sergio Vainikoff on synthesizers, Juan Fracchi on double bass, and Fito Cirigliano on drums and percussion, Cirigliano recreates the avant-garde essence of the Octeto Electrónico of the 1970s, but without the presence of the bandoneon in the orchestration. The repertoire includes iconic pieces such as "Escolaso," "Oblivion," "Libertango," and "Adiós Nonino," performed with a unique imprint that reflects the pianist's mastery and sensitivity.
Released in 2024 under the Club del Disco label, Astor y yo is available on vinyl and digital platforms. This work consolidates Cirigliano's position as a bridge between tradition and modernity in tango, bringing a fresh and renewed vision to Piazzolla's work.
