Rafael Varela

Rafael Varela is an Argentine guitarist, composer, music producer, and arranger. He began playing the guitar at age 12, initially influenced by The Beatles, Argentine rock by Spinetta and Charly García, and simultaneously by the tango that was part of his family environment. Later, he studied jazz at the EMC and went on to build a unique language in which rock, tango, jazz, and other music that has shaped his career coexist.

Throughout his career, he has combined his personal projects with extensive work as a producer, arranger, and guitarist. He was part of Ekeko, with whom he released “Santo Sonido” and “EP,” was a member of the Quinteto Varietal, and developed the “Tangócratas” project alongside Pablo Marchetti. As a producer, he has worked on albums by artists such as Adriana Varela, Cacho Castaña, Patricia Malanca, Chío, Juan Manuel Botello, and Julia Moro, among others, while also participating as an arranger and guitarist on numerous projects.

In his solo phase, Varela brings together all those experiences in an increasingly personal search. “Horizonte de Sucesos” (2020), “La Singularidad” (2023), and “Big Bang” (2025) form a conceptual trilogy inspired by astronomy and conceived as a journey through a black hole: from its event horizon to the singularity and, finally, the birth of a new universe. A work in which the rock of his beginnings, tango, jazz, and his years of experience as a performer and producer converge.
