Aprender a ver: Un homenaje a la amistad, la memoria y los ritmos afro-cubanos

Aprender a ver: a tribute to friendship, memory and Afro-Cuban rhythms

Ballenita Mozambique presents Aprender a ver, their new album released by Club del Disco and now available on digital platforms.

The work brings together seven songs that mark the Cuban-Argentine orchestra's return to recording and represent a particularly significant moment in their history. More than a new release, Aprender a ver is a tribute to Wilfredo Cuesta Mira, co-founder, trumpeter, and arranger of the group, whose artistic imprint remains present in each of the compositions on the album.

The history of Ballenita Mozambique is deeply linked to the dissemination of mozambique, a genre born in Cuba in the 1960s at the hands of Pello El Afrokan. From its beginnings, the orchestra has worked to bring these Afro-Cuban rhythms to the Argentine public, building a proposal that combines tradition, Latin American identity, and a strong collective vocation.

After Wilfredo Cuesta Mira's death two years ago, the group members went through a period of pause and reflection. Over time, they decided to reunite to shape a project that would preserve and share the musical legacy of one of the orchestra's fundamental pillars.

From that decision, Aprender a ver was born. The album features arrangements conceived by Cuesta Mira and serves as a celebration of his artistic and human contribution, keeping his presence alive in the sound of Ballenita Mozambique.

Through these seven songs, the group reaffirms its commitment to the dissemination of Afro-Cuban rhythms and to a musical tradition that continues to find new ways of expressing itself and dialoguing with the present.

Aprender a ver can now be streamed on digital platforms.
