Altertango, "La saga dels marges"

Club del Disco was founded in Buenos Aires as a label dedicated to tango and Argentine jazz, working with some of the most important artists on the scene. Today, operating from Barcelona and defining itself as a Catalan-Argentine label, the encounter with Elbi Olalla and Altertango seemed inevitable.

With over 25 years of experience, Altertango has built its own identity within contemporary tango. Led by Mendocino pianist and composer Elbi Olalla, the group has developed an ever-evolving artistic search, incorporating influences from rock, jazz, and experimental music without losing its connection to tango. Collaborating on this new project with Altertango was not only natural but also an opportunity to continue strengthening the musical bridges between Argentina and Catalonia.

"La saga dels marges" is Altertango's eighth album, conceived as a meeting point between different traditions, territories, and musical sensibilities. Divided into three chapters "La suite ADN", "La suite del Raval" and "La suite de l'Arrabal", the project celebrates friendship, artistic collaboration, and the multiple intersections that run through 21st-century tango.

Combining new songs in Catalan with the spirit of contemporary tango, the album explores "the margins" as spaces of freedom, creativity, and transformation. More than a reinterpretation of tango, "La saga dels marges" revives the open and multicultural character that accompanied the genre from its origins. Mendoza, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires appear here as territories connected by the same artistic quest, where tradition and contemporaneity dialogue naturally.

Recorded in Barcelona, the album brings together compositional collaborations with friends and fundamental pillars of the Tango Siglo XXI movement, such as bandoneon players, composers, and directors Julio Coviello (Tango Cañón, La Orquesta Invisible) and Pablo Gignoli (Paris, TAXXI, Tango Siglo XXI); singer, writer, and teacher Alejandro Guyot (Bombay Buenos Aires, L'Art del Tango, EMPA); composer, activist, singer, and sound designer Josefina Rozenwasser Marín (Tango en el Raval); and guitarist, producer, and teacher Edgardo González (Bombay Buenos Aires, Conservatorio Manuel de Falla), who also worked on the artistic production of the album.

In addition to these collaborations, the album features compositions by the group's own musicians, Ezequiel Acosta, Franco Niella, and Federico Salgado, along with violinist Jor Villarnovo and the aforementioned participation of Magalí Sare, a talented Catalan singer and composer.

La saga dels marges functions as an open dialogue between identities, landscapes, and ways of understanding music, consolidating one of the most personal and expansive proposals in Altertango's career.
